i was watching blue peter on the telly (hey i was REALLY bored) anyway i half saw a bit about the life of the salmon ,i watched it through and at the very end after the spawning bit i am sure they said the tired but happy adults returned to the sea ,was the ending changed for the benefit of children or do some return to the sea ? i e`mailed blue peter to ask for a transcript of the salmon bit (incase i misheard) obviously the person didnt know what a transcript was because they said they didnt video blue peter :confused:

Some of them do make it back to the sea Chesters, but many of them don't.

 

It would seem to have been sanitised for the sake of the little ones sensitivities.

 

Can't understand why,tell the little blighters the truth, it's tough out there.

Depends what part of the world you're in. I might get this a bit mixed up, but The atlantic salmon in the UK returns to the sea every year. It then returns to rivers to spawn every 18months or so.

 

Other species of salmon, Kings Sokey(spelling) etc die after returning to spawn

..... here's a couple of quotes from fishy books referring to Salmo salar.

 

"deaths from exhaustion after spawning and the journey back to the sea appear to be a frequent occurence"

 

"after spawning the adults are known as "kelts" and many die, but survivors return to the sea"
