Steve Burke:
From the brginning of this year Atoms were no longer imported into the UK. Pure Fishing, who now own Abu as well as Berkeley, tell me it's because there's insuffient demand. I think I'm right in saying though that they're still available on the Continent (for instance Germany) where more lure fishing is done.
I bought some of the larger Atoms from this place, they also have the Landa Pikko spoons, which are great!

Thanks Newt!

PS - Of course, I was a little shy about asking what an anti tangle band is. Ah well, maybe another time.

PPS - Then again, if an American web site doesn't allow for a post code box and is therefore anti British, would an anti tangle band be anti-anti British if purchased in America? A pro tangle band? Sounds downright dangerous to me.

chesters1 - for some reason, the UK style closed face reel wasn't available at all over here (except maybe from some small, specialty places) until the past year or so. Now I see an occasional one in a catalog.

OTOH, our spin-cast reel which is similar doesn't seem to be well known over there. The spin-cast reels are made usually in a version that mounts like a multiplier but there is also a "trigger" version that bottom-mounts like a fixed spool. Much smaller opening in the face though than with yours.

yes we know what spincast reels are newt i used to have a norris shakespear "wonder rolle!" it had a push button on the rear but was used the right way up on the rod (the reel underneath)with the handle on the left ,it was a good little reel but it was a bit short on line capacity ,they crop up occasionally on e`bay under vintage :)

still no reply from abu usa

thanks for the tip phone ,could come in handy

Peter Waller:

Why they they let themselves down re service is a mystery and a crying shame.

ABU, pull your socks up.

Perhaps they think that they supply enough spares with the new reel. I haven't used hardly any of the stuff that came with my 1969 5000C yet. Still got them somewhere!!
