hi all

just read in "waterlog" (yes im now addicted to this journal)

 

a powerfull form of oestrogen from the female contraceptive pill is entering the lowland rivers in urine flushed out of sewage works, and as a result, male fish are developing female characteristics, and in some stretches of river all males have been feminised.

 

the only government body to even mention this is so far the EA a report is due out soon.

 

anyone have any more info on this.

Sorry to be a smartbottom, but it was on "Countryfile" a few weeks ago. Apparently the hormone can be removed in water treatment works, but guess what?

Exactly what you've said there Gray. Theres actually lots of oestrogens in the environment! its having an effect on Humans too! Sperm counts are going down and so are lengths of ........well you know.

I know that over 100 of 'em are female - but are you saying they are ALL contributing to oestrogen levels in the Lower Thames ?

unfortunatly theres so much oestrogen in men now even we are contributing its in ANY river that has a sewage outfall ,as water in this country is virtually unchecked for soluble hazards .remember years ago when on holiday it was tabboo to drink the water ,its now a problem over here ,rise up comrades and demand YOUR water is put through reverse osmosis filtration before you all "come out"
