Thanks Elton. As usual, Fred writes well and your M.P. sounds like good people.

Dear Elton,

I enjoyed Freds article that went some way towards knowing something about Martin Salter.

I already knew about Martins hatred for foxhunting. Anyone know what Martins opinions are on live baiting?

I like the view he holds on the cormorant issue. But sadly, the RSPB take a different view. And the RSPB membership perhaps being stronger minded than ever before regarding cormorants now seeing as they are deemed as hypocrits by Martin. The plain truth about the Ruddy Duck issue was that the RSPB membership were extremely angry when those heading up the RSPB at the time called for a cull on these ducks. Infact, such were their anger that most doubt if the leadership of the RSPB will ever agree to a bird cull ever again.

Like Martin says, only a change to the cormorants present status will solve the problem. But I fear that whilst Martins words are welcome, he will soon find out just how powerful the RSPB are if they decide to flex their muscles over any bird issue. Big money. Big membership. Block votes.

On a lighter note; Is the cage that Martin is fishing by reserved for naughty foxhunters? If so, Peter Waller has the banana's. But I dont think that they are for feeding purposes!

Regards,

Lee.

Good article, I hope he offers as much as he promises.

It's a shame he didn't even bother to reply when I contacted him, twice, about the whole livebaiting in the lakes issue months ago, when it was perhaps possible to do something about it. I suspect he is weak on livebaiting, so I'm sure he'll do better for things he believes in personally. Whether that means he supports "angling" though, might be open to question.

I fear he’ll vote as the party whips tell to Tim. Wouldn’t want to lose his 70K p y job would he!

Lee - Martin is my local MP & he lives half a mile from me (I too can walk across the fields from my house to the Kennet ) - and I've chatted to him on the bank on more than one occasion (though he wouldn't know me from Adam...)

Chatting to him at the back end of last season when he was one the Wasing stretch of the Kennet at Aldermaston he was recommending a trotted minnow for the big perch that reside there - deduce from that what you will....
