Biggest fish / species

Recommended Posts

Biggest - shared between two 55lb fish - vundu catfish in Lake Kariba & nile perch in Lake Nasser.

I did hook a very large freshwater stingray in the Amazon but lost it after about 90 minutes and never even got close to landing it!

Most unusual - puffer fish in Lake Nasser, plecostomus & candiru in the Amazon (both supposedly uncatchable on rod & line) (ps candiru is the one that swims up yer willy, although you'd need a damn big willy for this one to swim up!)

Just to wet your appetite.... a few years ago a fossilised pike was unearthed in Russia. It was identical to modern pike in every way except in size. Experts have determined that when this specimen was alive, it weighed about 800lb!!!!

While I'm here, I'll mention a red-eared terrapin that I caught at Fishers Pond in Hampshire, on luncheon meat while fishing for carp.

It had one hell of a bite on it. My finger can bear witness to that.
