Lyn,

As a qualified NFA Angling Instructor for over 25 years, ex- National Anglers Council Educational Development Officer for the Eastern Region, 25 years as secondary school teacher and organiser of school and youth club angling clubs, ex- Junior organiser for Telford A.A., ex- NFA West Mids Region Angling Education Officer, etc. etc. my opinion is to forget the red tape, get as many parents of your youngsters as possible to turn up on the day to help supervise the kids, (and each other) and just let them get on with it.

I can understand the present reluctance of people to get involved in anything to do with kids, but at the end of the day, we have to educate them into our sport as much as possible.

Just go for it!

I have just been listening to Keith Arthur on Talk Sport. He had Bob Clark from the NFA on.(is that with an E or with out? would hate to spell it wrong eh, DCB )

Keith asked Bob why you have to be a licenesed coach. Now they couldn't take phone ins when he gave his answer. Now basicly what Bob Clark said was that you would need to be a 'Level one coach' now according to Malcom Hansons letter to Les, Level 1 - Certificate to assist in the Coaching of Angling (Game)

Level 2 - Certificate in the Coaching of Angling (Basic)

Now according to Bob Clark 'Level 1' sounds more like an 'escort/carers' course. You will not to able to coach children but you will be able to take them fishing as long as you don't try & show how to do it!

This gets more confusing by the minute

Phil, here's one for you. (This letter from MH is so condecending at times!) The assessors of these courses will be required to hold an assessment qualification, these are known as D32,D33,D34 & D36 maybe you or someone here from, quote, " an educational background' may be able to enlighten us.

Bob Clark did not really answer the question put to him, when they came back after some 'ads' they were on to anti angling!

Well if Keith Arthur thinks Bob Clark has all the answers then I guess my next stop is the NFA!

One 'still' confused

"Chesters is promoting purse snatching!"

no but teaching them to fish could turn them into "tackle tarts" purse snatching would increase in the desire for stainless waders or whatever , if the thought of kids fishing stops them commiting a crime is a nonsense ,after all one weve got them "hooked" who`s going to buy them the latest "hot" rod ,probably not their poor parents and certainly not social services ,purse snatching will still occur :D

Chesters1,

They will move from little old ladies to little old men and start snatching tackle.

I believe teaching the next generation worthwhile activities including angling enriches society. The little imps will choose for themselves later but at least they will have a working knowledge of the choices.
