The 'Uncatchable' Ones...

I definately think that fish of that size have 'experience' if you like.

Like a wise owl.(no pun intended on shef wed winning the playoff final which they will).

Its like you knowing where the best pint is, if it dont taste nice you dont go.

If you kept getting caught on boilies, pellet, maggots etc. You would soon learn that those foods get you caught. Like someone with an allergy, if it doesnt suit you, you dont eat it!!!

The fish just get wise.

Logical, MB, but it doesn't explain why some fish get caught over and over again, while others never do.

Different fishes for different dishes, I guess.

Newt:

So Terry - when can I expect you and how long can you stay?

In an ideal world, Newt, my answers would be 'As soon as I can arrange a flight' and 'As long as the beer and jerky holds out', my friend.

One day, when I'm free...(sigh)...

:D

Open offer Terry. Just give me a little notice so I can arrange the days off.

In case you aren't familiar with smallmouth buffs, Here is a picture of Globetrotter with a nice one.

And This is some nice commons and a buff picture just to add a little spice.

Newt, you're a gennamun of the first order, Sir.

It's all about druthers, mate, but I'm determined to make it over there soon, and I'll hold you to your kind invitation.

Cheers, mate.

Terry - please do. The times I've had a visitor from either AN or MaggotDrowning, it has been a great time for all involved.

The fish aren't always as large as you might like

But some certainly can put a bend in the rod

Summer is nice but not the only possiblity

Do manage a few snow carp

Oops - nearly forgot but I think this caused the rod bend

Could it be that some fish just eat natural foods like snails, mussels and fly hatches. These fish would grow big and although they may be seen occasionally they may never be caught as no-one is putting a snail on the hook and fishing it over a bed of snails.

Peter Waller:

The carp were being decidedly rude up my way yesterday evening. Must be a national alarm clock for rampant carp! And what was I doing poking around a carp lake

Also spawning on Friday night / Sat on all three pools where I was.

The head baliff told me the top pool looked like world war three was going on.

I was on the bottom pool and saw some mad spawning going on but the bottom pool has a much lower stock than the top.

One bunch were in action a meter away from me bivvie.

I left my rods out while watching but deep down knew that a pick up from ANYTHING was unlikely as other species tend to keep well out of the way while carp spawn.

I had a 12lb 2oz ghostie that went STRAIGHT back.

As for the ones that never get caught.

Think about humans.

We all have an IQ, IE some are much more inteligent than others.

You get the occasional genius, you get loads with an average IQ (thats why its an average), then you get the dougnuts.

A genius is simply a genuis.

An average learns by experiance.

A doughnut never seems to and most of the time never wants to learn.

Then again a fish that keeps getting caught could be playing the percentage game.

A patch of bait has 100 boilies spread about 98 freebies and two hookbaits.

Odd/s of 98/2 in favour of the fish but reducing every time it eats one.

If it eats 60 then gets hooked maybe it thinks it was worth it as it likes the boilies!!!!!!!!

Maybe these fish dont like boilies.

I dont like certain foods and wont eat them.

The mysteries of the deep, isnt that one very good reason we fish???????????????????
