Are they worth it what with the £ weak? Daughter gets married in just over 3 weeks, bearing in mind it's an additional cost to me of £50 for the Solent crossing............

I suppose it would depend on the amount you want Huge, but there are fuel costs, ferry or chunnel costs etc.. to take into considerattion. Supermarkets over here normally have a few promo's, and if you can get to have a chat with the manager, you can often get a discount on large orders.

I still go over to Calais Shopping (I am over next weekend) and there are bargains to be had but not the savings that used to be made. Your best bet is to go for the specialist end of teh market when it comes to beer, i.e. go for the Biere du Gard or Biere Blanch rather than the cheapo larger, Same with the winde look for quality rather than quantity and you will save mone.

Other things like ground Coffee are also so much cheaper.

A man after me own heart. Biere du Gard, beer from the beer drinking region of France. :drunk: Edited by corydoras

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

So true and there are a lot of new independent brasseries brewing their own stuff these days; look out for St GlinGlin triple, Le Rince Cochon and the black, Noire de Slack from the brasserie artisinal des 2 Caps

Have you tried Sainsbury's own brand Biere du Gard. Have you tried laying down a few bottles for a couple of years?

We costed it a couple of years back when we got married and it would have been far more expensive, especially adding in fuel and ferry costs, never mind the limitations on what you can bring back. We did the rounds of the supermarkets doing deals and got most cases of beer for about a tenner each - I think we bought 30-40 cases in total and we had about 10 left over at the end (for 200 people).

Some stores have limits on the number of cases you can buy at a time but morrisons didn't so we only needed a few extra trips.

If you want some specialist wines, cheeses, etc., its worth it just as a day out, but for loading up for a family party its no longer economical.

It will be cheaper to buy party beers and wines at your local UK supermarket.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))
