I have to agree with both Anderoo's and Budgies comments.

Anyone fancy a dropshot fish in?

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.

I'd be up for that - I wonder how we'd choose a venue though? We'd need somewhere fairly central that has a decent amount of perch and few/no pike. Any ideas anyone?

I've just looked at a few youtube clips of drop shotting and it just looks like a form of jigging to me...or am I wrong ?

Ian Jigging is just lifting the lure a few inches off bottom and allowing to fall back ,dropshoting is working the lure up in the water a bit more and less rod movement ,or at least the way i do it is .

Mmm, I'm not nockin it Steve as it looks like it would get the attension of a predator but it does seem to be jigging to me. Obviously you need to be fishing pretty much directly over the lure just as you do when jigging ? I would imagine that may be a problem for many people, finding a decent spot to use the technique from a bank that is unless of course you can fish it in another stlye.

Could it not be just another manufacturers attempt to get the anglers to part with some more coin ?

It'll be interesting how you chaps find it as you get a few more sessions under your belts.

From the little i know/have seen the lure act whilst trying it the dropshotting style the lure is horizontal and jigging it`s rising or falling ,I get where you are coming from though Ian as i don`t see why a jigging rod within a certain weight range would be any different than a dropshotting rod in the same range? maybe i am missing something though .

The good thing about drop shotting is that you can do it effectively from the bank where vertical jigging is very limited unless in a boat.

From my limited experience so far the hardest thing seems to be to not over work the lure,This is where the spliced tip that the better drop shot rods have comes in.

Where I think its very effective though is that you can keep and work the lure in one spot which you cant do with other lure methods. This does mean of course that you need to locate the "spot" first!

A good way to think of it is paternostering a soft mini lure.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
