The Angling Trust chief executive officer, Mark Lloyd, responding to the formation of a predator action group last year, added: “Fishing will not triumph in a fight involving the control of otters. The best thing to do is push hard for more funding for fencing and other means of protecting large waters.”

One of the few things I've agreed with Mark Lloyd on. Although the careful wording didn't say what his views would be if 'fishing could triumph in a fight involving the control of otters'.

 

A New Year, a New Angling Dawn? Don't hold your breath.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Oh Dear!! The quotes from the woman regarding 'Tarka' and ''killing my children's favourite animal'' when talking about culling is heavily loaded towards sentiment not facts as some would see it.

Of course in a environment where there is a large water course the impact of such a predator is not that apparent, the problem is rather more obvious in smaller watercourses.

Read the reply to the article for a sense of perspective.

The reply seems to suggest that the otter is still being re-introduced.

This is not the case and hasn't been for about 20 years.

The "fact" to take home from the woman's comments is that if we start pushing for otter controls we will win nothing but the enduring contempt of much of the public. Her feelings about the animals are not unusual.
