When is Wingham fish in as I may make an apperance - normally had an important match to fish.

 

Dates are Sat 19th May to Monday 21st May.

Not familiar with UK match angling as you know. Take it from an "old guy" I am quite familiar with your situation. The "boys" have all given good advice. Let me say, it is NOT a sin to simply take a little time off entirely. Recapitulate your life goals so to speak.

 

You will enjoy "staying current" right here on AN by simply sharing your past experiences.

 

As for the "way things are done" - - - well, that's our job (older guys) - - - to biytch a bit. Nothing quite like the "good ole days" are there?

(I tried (one year) to go the whole year using my "best" angling skills to blank every session. It can't be done but it was "fun" trying. You know what? In Canada during that year I identified over 70 different species of moss. Turned out to be cool!!). What is it you want?? That's what's important.

Have to agree with the majority that it is good that you have identified what it is that you dislike about your angling rather than just giving up altogether. My brother made that mistake. He thought he was fed up and sold all his tackle to a friend of mine. Not long after he realised that he had made a mistake and was just fed up with the fishing he had been doing and wanted to try something new. Cost him an awful lot to replace his gear.

 

I suppose it is a good excuse for me being a hoarder of tackle :D . I have tackle for all occasions and styles of fishing whether I am currently into it or not. I know that one day I will get bored of what I am doing and want to try something new and will already have the tackle to do so. I get like that a lot. I will try something for a few months, get sidetracked and then try something else for a while. I like to keep mixing up my fishing so that it never becomes stale. That is the real joy of pleasure angling for me. I am not tied down to doing a certain type of fishing on any given weekend. If I fancy chucking some copper around a canal then I can, likewise if I fancy floating some balsa on the river I can just pick up the gear and I am off. I couldnt match fish as it is too rigid for me and I dont like the idea of competing when I should be relaxing. B)

I'm a big fan of trying something radically new, I started piking after never going before, and am loving every minute.

 

No point doing something if it's not making you happy :)

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."
