RSPB and anglers at odds over bird

Stopping the introduction of pike into Scottish lochs for fishing could help ensure the future of one of Scotland's rarest and most beautiful birds, according to research by RSPB Scotland.

Bit of a strange report - is anyone introducing pike to lochs where they don't already exist?

I think the RSPB tries to be a serious conservation body, but often comes out looking like a lobbying group for the hobby of birdwatching.

i wouldn't believe anything the RSPB say about anything

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Most of the lochs in that area have held pike for hundreds if not thousands of years. I have a book printed in the late 1700s that refers to pike fishing in this locality.

What should not be in this loch is the minnow. Don't know about the stickleback.

I would think that the Slavonian Grebe might be on fairly shaky ground (There is a clue in the name ;) )

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

I resigned from the RSPB after 40 years after I became annoyed at the constant self interest masquerading as conservation.

The only conservation the RSPB has a mandate for is birdlife and that is what they do - although their methods are frequently dressed up to be somewhat wider. If they were genuinely interested in the full 'conservation schtick' they'd look at fishing in a more fair-minded way.
