I am a sucker for a tackle shop. They are like sweet shops to me. I dont always have to buy anything but I love to be there chatting away. Myself and my wife get on really well with the owners of our local shop and I have been going there for years. Its nice to pop in and have a chat and a look at some gear. My biggest problem is the lure section. I can always convince myself that there is going to be a situation that I might need a particular lure in. I try to avoid walking past the lures. :rolleyes:

This thread reminds me of this quotation by Arthur Ransome - from the opening chapter of Rod and Line - On Tackle Shops.

 

"The pleasures of fishing are chiefly to be found in rivers, lakes and tackle shops and, of the three, the last are least affected by the weather. The sight of rods in a window brings a fisherman to a full stop as surely as the sight of a bridge. What a wonderful quote, as hard as it is to walk past a tackle shop. Could any one walk over a bridge with out a look over the side and in to the water? :D

Tackle shop, no problem. Been in all the ones near me and only one is worth going to imo. The others don't have a sfriendly atmosphere as they used too.

Online however, I can get lost in online shops and eBayaholism should be a medically recognised problem. That I may have :o

Who else keeps a small set-up, permanently in their car, y'know, just in case... :lol:

This Years' Targets:- As many species by lure as possible. Preferably via Kayak. 15lb+ Pike on Lure...

The thing is if you see a rod that is worth £300 and you get it for £20 2nd hand on E-bay then the attraction is always there. Fishing tackle is so much a buyers market. The same as car parts the differences are beyond belief. There was a rod on there a couple of weeks back that new was £250 it went for £40 and it was immaculate. i rang up Tackle shop and they would give me £80 for it....Enough said....

I do admit that I like going to the tackleshop where ever I am. really like to see new products and make a judge on them whether if they be ok for me or not! And the other question is when I am in the shop is whether i use it or not!

 

Been to quite a few in the past even some of the biggest names like Brundall Angling Centre, Bristol Angling Centre, Angling Direct, Leslies of Luton and Tackle Box in Dartford.

 

I don't really need any tackle but only get it at the last resort and try to keep in within the spending limit to what ever I can afford.

 

I am also buying a few thing/stuff on ebay as well but I never get round to using them!

Growing old is inevitable but growing up is optional

The bay is a Aladdins cave of the weird and wonderful to an angler.

 

It's even worse if you are a lure angler, there is so much to choose from :D
