Hearing reports of 8/9lb Eels coming out of the Crayfish pools owned by the cemex syndicate. It is starting to annoy the Carp anglers .

Most important thing Ive learned about eels is that 8lb eels are both truely enourmous and very very rare! Second is that nearly all 6lb+ eels claimed by carp anglers are more like 3! Very rarely weigh them and even if they do its in a gert big heavy landing net or monster carp mat/sling........which is never deducted!

 

Not sour grapes just what I have seen umpteen times on umpteen waters.

 

A good example is how all the eels caught out of the carp lake at Wingham by carpers are 6lb and all the ones by eel anglers are 3lb!

Well - - - - that's the way I weigh carp. I can see no reason not to weigh ells the same way. (Be sure you add a couple three cups of water to the weigh sling for fish safety.)

 

Someday I think I'd like to catch an eel on purpose. (believe I'll put on the "to do" list.)

 

In general, fish weights for certain species have become so "dishonest" in the US that fish length is the only acceptable C&R varification (some states). They then use a table to assess the "approximate" weight. Records are kept in lengths.

That's what i meant with the icon. It's quite commical to claim you have eels like that. Next we will be calling these big eels name like eric the eel or Elton the eel!

Crayfish = monster eels. Baits Dysoned 18" of bottom are crayfish proof.

I don't think they get caught often enough to get names,
