Chasing the Big Girls

Absolutely fantastic - I'm really pleased for you, that is a great achievement! Not just big but truely wild and looks in great condition. The term 'specimen hunter' has turned into something of a dirty word here, but there are still plenty of us who appreciate the effort and thought of a successful campaign. Sharing it with a like-minded friend - now that's the icing on the cake :)

I'm glad to see the pioneering spirit is alive and well B)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Thank you Hawk, didnt you fish in the good old days?:P

just to **** you off a bit more, she was not my PB either ;)

LOL..I am not **** off mate but i know the jest in which you said it. More like jelousy mate i love those things. I remember catching my best after a 3 day mission in howling winds and it makes it so much more pleasing... :D

And it is a beautiful condition fish

Just out of interest what is the largest pike you have come across in the fens? It always amazed me that getting anything over 10lb was a miracle but then iguess different spots produce different sizes

Thank you for your comments :) very much appreciated.

Two years ago I was regularly getting double figure Pike, my largest being 23lb. However the last couple of seasons I have not caught many, maybe a couple around the 12-14lb mark, where as two years ago they were more like 14-18lb.

The big Pike are there, but not in numbers. Last year two of my mates caught two different Pike around the 24lb mark and I was told yesterday that a 29 came out from one of your favorite areas a couple of nights ago!! I have found that there are so many Jack Pike about this season, as well as numbers of small Zander compared to the last couple of seasons.

Thank you for your positive comments. I am sure John would say as well that they are appreciated.

I would say though, I don't class myself as a specimen hunter, I am as happy trotting a float for small Chub and Dace or quiver tipping for Bream etc.... I do have to admit I am a zander freak, whether they are big or small.

I think Pike are very unstable in varying water conditions and in the Drains it has to be the worst place for that. Mind you my dismal record for pike is increased to a 29/30lb i would be happy. :D

Hi

Headless, (Darrell) and I are off for a last gasp weekend of zander fishing again.

We cannot let the season end without trying hard again.

We will not be trying Darrells known good spots but again be pioneering. Darrell did let a good friend know he caught the big girl and tonight his friend is fishing the very same swim. Just shows sometimes you have to keep secrets. Never mind I think this next season we may well find many more zander hotspots or big individual fish and when we do it will be totally of our own work finding and catching them.

Daytime with good flow and colour I also fancy some end of season bream or tench.

There is a very large pleasure in catching from unknown area's or unknown fish.

The very heavy rain may make it difficult this weekend its difficult to know until we get there. Its been so dry until now its hard to foresee.

I am certain our combined skills and knowledge will produce some special fish over the next 12 months They may not all be zander maybe some good tench bream perch roach pike etc but one thing you can be sure of we will be out there doing proper fishing for big natural fish and as long as we still have friends here we will report our catches .

I hope to be fishing from thursday afternoon until sunday afternoon so peeing on the bank defacating in the hedge ( not for me as I take a toilet in my disco) the 3m rule and not sleeping whilst fishing are all rules I will probably break at some point. I am just a bit of an old rebel. :D

regards for now

John
