i see your point but rather than darker the sun is in a different position i will try now with the AX350 and the Z710

 

 

16mp 5xzoom landscape mode

 

7.1mp 10x zoom landscape mode

 

both cropped at 120%

 

should both be at 5x?

 

are my expectations to high surely the intervening years should have a marked difference in quality?

 

the e550 though would leave them both standing i know!

you need to shoot both at same zoom as well..

but again both images are different sizes...dont zoom in on your photo app.

crop the same pixel size section from each un-zoomed image..for exemplar 500*500 pixels

then zoom to same level on both images and you will notice more detail in the higfher MP image....or at least if it is producing better images you will...that is escence all the higher MP does

imagine an inch of dots...the 5mp cam will stuff (as an illustration of idea) say 100 pixels into that inch

a 15 MP cam will treble that amount..stuffing 300 pixels into the inch...so for printing you will see greater detail and clarity in a 5*7 printed image of a 15MP image thatn you would a 5MP image because there are more pixels on the larger MP print out.

in order to see that on the file in your program you need to stop zooming in and cropping. crop first then zoom in to the same pixel size for each image.

yeah it happens! i had an old canon s2is which took amazing images! but it east batteries like chocolate! took 7 piccies with it last time and it blew four AA's! LOL

upgraded the missus to a new lumix instead, it was cheaper in the long run that batteries!

traded the canon in against my new dslr lens!

the picture have gone somewhere ,i'm surprised at the size difference ,can i close down dropbox at my end yet?

not even a RAW function on this new thing!

 

hmmm spotted the crops i think my new camera is pants or is it my monitor?
