Managed to get out trotting today...

This last fortnight i've had several or more lovely days trotting (trying to get some fun in before the season closes). Although i've had nothing much over 4lb's i've had decent numbers of fish (all chub except for one small trout today) and they've all been in lovely condition and fought like troopers all the way to the net. I managed to get out late-ish this afternoon but the walk to my secret swims is quite a long one of about a mile and a half along the river and cuts into actual fishing time- but worth every step for the peace, tranquility and relaxation of it...and of course the fish ! The weather seemed great when I was in the garden, decent temp's, very little wind etc and so I just slipped on my waistcoat filled with my terminal gear etc and thought i'd be nice and snug. When I got to the river things seemed a little different, the wind had got up, the temp's had plumeted and there was a distinct feel of some wet stuff. Normally I get hot on my walk to these targetted swims but today I was bloody freezin and had the drippin nose you'd expect to have a month or so back. Anyway i'll not go on any more, i'll just post a couple of pic's for anyone interested in lookin :) .

I finished up with nine chub and one small trout, but did loose several chub due to them being hit at range and able to kite to the bank and leave my hook in the foliage..clever blighters !

Nice one Ian.

Your right it ain't warm yet. Ive been home an hour from standing in the river and i still can't feel mi feet. :cold:

But it won't stop me doing it again tomorrow and the day after.

Give us shout if your up this way Ian, Ive booked three days off to try and cure my pining for the river. I think 2 more days of standing in freezing cold water up to my belly button should see me right for a bit. :)

I tried fishing with my new open face reel and trotting at long range (40 yards across the river) yesterday so that i didn't have to get in. I did catch 1 chub doing it, but i soon gave and jumped in with the pin and fish the same line from about 3 rod lengths, which work a lot better.

Enjoyable days trotting today Brian, hopefully we'll have an even better time tomorrow :D

Yes it was an enjoyable day dispite all.

For anyone reading, after a good walk to our first choice of pegs, we found it was packed out (I've never seen it so busy). So we went on a new to both of us stretch on the lower tidal waters, but no sooner had we started getting some good chub in the bag, than tide came in. :wallbash: We tried a couple more spots after that, but we didn't strike gold.

All in all it was a good day to be out. Just a shame other anglers thought the same, but that the last few days of the season for you i suppose.
