Line diameter

Hiya,

Reading through one of the weekly mags it said lines may be shown as diameter only in a few years. My question is how will people like myself who buy the line looking at the lbs ??

Is there a chart or could some one post some info diameter to lb is please.

Thanks for your help

Not only that, but different materials, all having the same diameter, will have different breaking strains.

....and different qualities of the same material may have different breaking strains at a given diameter.

....and some manufacturers' labels are not very accurate - neither for diameter, nor breaking strain.

I have always checked both BS and diameter myself - much safer than relying on a label.

Peter Waller:

Have to say that I have wondered the same thing. Surely both b.s. and thickness are equally valid? I read articles now where just the diameter is refered to, to me its meaningless.

Ah, so it isn't just me being a Grumpy Old Man then? FFS, the diameter is a secondary consideration, I want to know the breaking strain. I may *then* decide to find the thinnest line I can for that strength.

lol.

I read that most lines who state a 10lb bs will actually have 15lb+ bs. Where as diameters are usually more accurate and give you the REAL bs :D

come on!! I always decide on B/S and then look at the various lines of that B/s for the thinnest diameter. Actually it pays to find out the KNOT strength of line as it could be 6lb but have a knot strength of 3lb!
