Early season baits for carp / tench?

Taking a trip to Heyford Fishery in Northamptonshire tomorrow, haven't been properly in ages so not sure what works nowadays although corn used to do the trick. Carp, tench & bream are main inhabitants so I'm not sure what I should use, especially this time of year! Another thing, fishing the far bank in a couple of feet of water always used to work, would that change due to the time of year?

Also if anyone's heard of canons ashby lakes, I'm going to give it a go soon so any advice is welcome :)

Should you happen on the fish in pre-spawn/spawn the "far bank in two feet of water" would be my first choice. If it is still "earlier" than spawn a good dose of betaine often triggers a "feeding response".

 

Beyond that I'm to far away to be helpful.

In general, I've always found that early spring (March - late April) is the time for big, bright, smelly baits like fruity boilies, oily pellets topped with a bit of fake corn, that kind of thing, and late spring (May - late June) is when small natural baits like maggots and casters really come into their own.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I would tend to target early season Tench & Bream with maggots either in a maggot feeder or groundbait feeder. If after Carp then I would go for a similar approach to Anderoo and use bright fruity boilies or halibut pellets topped of with bright plastic corn.

maybe we could organise a mini fish in

its only 5 mile down the rd from me

but i,ve only fished it once.

 

Sounds like a nice idea, I've only fished it twice and its only 10 mins from me!
