Hi all,

After a little ahem 'mishap' I need a new Spod rod. Anyone got any recommendations?

I don't care if its looks naff! I hear people suggesting beach casters are ideal but I know nothing about these rods so any advice?

Budgie, do you have anything available?

The giant 12'6 spod rod is a good one at under £50 retail.

I use the TFG Banshee Spod Rod, my dad needed a cheap carp rod so I got this one free with his rod, it seems ok but I'm definately no expert on Spod rods. If they still have the deal you could get the Spod rod and a marker rod in the 2 for 1 deal.

If I get a place at Wingham and you are there and wanted to see it I should be using it...... Although I'm guessing you would probably have bought one by then :-)

I tried using a beach caster as a spod rod for one session. I then went and brought a spod rod.

I found the beachcaster far to heavy and cumbersome to use for any length of time.

As for best make etc i cannt help there i just brought what they had in the shop that didnt feel to heavy.

everytime i catch a fish i'm lucky when i blank i'm a hopeless angler.

Kappa - it depends how much you want to spend on a spod rod!

A 3lb or 3.25lb Test Curve will ideal to cast out a mini spod like Fox TB2 or Mini Spomb will be ok but for heavy duty work like spodding a big areas then I go for an example a JRC skylinner spod 4.5lb TC to the Fox Warrior 5.5lb TC spod rods - Most spod rod will be cheaper on ebay providing if you using common sense on bidding!

Growing old is inevitable but growing up is optional

I would agree with Andrew, that ebay is not a bad place to lo0k for a deal. I picked up a Shimano Olivio Spod 5.5TC for £40 recently. I don't know much about TFG rods but this seems a good price for a spod rod.

Hi Rich

Fox horizon rods are much better quality than many more costing a fortune.

The spod is a very good rod.

I have warrior s with cork handles in 2.75 test and a friend used them recently to land a bream for me and was so impessed he has now bought 2 and got them with the spod rod.

It is a 5.5lb but will easily compress and does short aswell as long distances very well.

Mishap ? You can't come on a forum and just say mishap :P

Im not sure how it will go as haven't used it yet but bought a cheap beach caster off ebay for some spoding, I rarely fish places that I need a spod so wasn't going to spend a lot. I think I will get a few looks spodding on the grand union canal !

I'm back is fishing like riding a bike? you never forget how?
