It was up nearly 5" when we arrived this morning and rose another 3 whilst we were there ,Loads of rubbish wiping out the lines even in a slackish bit on the inside of a bend ...had one bite missed it then had a rod taken out by an overenthuasiastic Rupert in a sculler exchanged pleasantries then sausage roll eaten by someones dog it rained again i came home.

 

Not surprised - I was in Reading this afternoon doing my Christmas shopping with all the other muppets and the Kennet was barreling through in the town and the colour of a strong coffee, so I can only imagine what the Thames was like. Looks like plan B then - might try the lakes for the Pike.

Well gave up a while ago today on my zander trip on the ouse below littleport.

 

The flow was high but that I can cope with. The problem was the rubbish coming down and wiping lines out. there were even branches and twigs and tree's are rare on the fens. I could not keep a line in the water for 10 mins without it being pulled out.

 

Bought a lovely fresh trout for zander bait on my way there this morning and kept it in my cold box. The zander don't know what they missed as I have just eaten it and am washing it down with a rather nice wine.

 

Have to say I would rather be without alchohol and watching my rods but thats the way of it at present.

 

Dales I am going to have to come to wyboston with you.

My plan B was the lower Kennet :wallbash: but in reality i knew it was likely to be washed out ...have to have a think Steve.

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:

The Ouse here is dirty and going at some pace, so my spinning tomorrow will be binned. Hopefully the Zeds will come in to the Lagoon tonight to get out of the flow. Plenty of bait fish showed at dusk, so still hopeful. From what I have been told after midnight until around 2 or 3 am is good.

Rosswell at ely is similar being joined to ouse and the zeds do seem to come in and out whatever the condition of river or weather. I don't even think they follow prey fish particularly but just cruise their good hotspots just as we do.

 

I sometimes think we credit fish with too much intelligence but they actually have lots of natural instinct which is something lacking in many anglers these days. Of course that makes the fish seem so much more intelligent.

 

Patrol routes at rosswell and no doubt wyboston are well documented but I am beginning to think outside the accepted norm and doing well. Anglers are like sheep.

Sound good, if we sort something out I will PM Terry T. I am sure he would be interested, not sure if he ever got a Zed after the Fens meet. I still smile when I think of the Pike he caught, his bait must have been bigger then the Pike :D
