i use the nortons personal firewall and ofcourse nortons antivirus ,seems to work although the firewall has a few quirks such a not being able to view images on some sites and best installed in safe mode :)

I agree /w chesters1 and use the same AV program and firewall - even though my router/switch for my home network has a built in firewall. I like to run both.

The latest version of the Norton AV program has another feature I really like - it scans email as I am sending it so just in case I have gotten a bug, no one else will get it and I will quickly find out I'm infected.

To add on a little, I also like Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.nu/downloads.html to remove any spyware that has gotten loaded since AV programs won't detect most of them - as they are not viruses. Free program. And in case you already have it, get the update to version 5.8 which was issued April 29. Major added features including a block for the nasty piece of scumware (mpeg handler of some sort) that will remove your ad-aware program (silently too) if it is not running.

And while it is not strictly a protection issue, I HATE pop-up advertising and use Pop-up Stopper from www.panicware.com to block them. Also free.
