diesel brainiaks?

Thick oil will make a great difference in starting ,pushing in the clutch gets around the gearbox oil but not the engine oil ,you need to change diesel engine oil far more often i presume because it gets dirtier and thicker quicker.

Changing it will be little cost to see if theres an improvement

I would recheck the battery and its connections and the thick cable to the starter for tightness and cleanliness though

you are right chesters, i will change the oii in the morning as i used to do it every 5000, very easy to do as it's all on the front, not done it for a while, and will check me nuts.

In my big trucks that wiggle in the middle (not sure what you call them in the UK?) back in the day 99 times out of a 100 it was simply unconditioned or poorly conditioned fuel. Start with the easiest solution first. I bet you've changed fuel supplier?

It may well be cheaper than getting a new starter but still cheap enough not to matter if it doesnt make any difference .

There should also be a thin wire voing to the starter pull it off and push it back on a few times incase thats dirty as well ,that trips a switch in the starter making the starter swict to the thick wire and draw the current to turn the starter.

Theres little to go wrong with diesels compared to petrol

Fuel ,the fuel mixture (the injectors are working fine ) and the mechanical bits and the strange modern phenomenon of putting electronics in the way of simple things that dont need it

 

Ps dont forget that new oil filter as well

We always knew when it was fuel because 4 or 5 trucks would exhibit the same symptoms you describe - but all at once.

Can i suggest you go to a qualified diesel fitter to get the work done. May save you a lot in the future.

your right again chesters my van has a larger brain to go wrong than some. nothing left to consider apart from the starter area unless............................

 

thanks phone, but as again i have added gear to the fuel and i have a good turnaround from different outlets
