So is the Government going to lift the ban on legally owned hand-guns now they now it's the illegally held hand-guns that cause the problems?

(something we all knew anyway!!)

Based on another thread where Fishery officials are at times afraid to check anglers for licenses, maybe making them sworn law enforcement officers and arming them might be in order.

And there is much to be said for ordinary folks being allowed to own guns. Long or short. Problems --- surely. But overall, worth it IMO.

I think knives over a certain length are also banned in public places.

It's not the guns or the knives that are the problem, it's the idiots on the end of them. I used to own weapons before they were banned, but I must say I don't miss them. The nonsense is that shotguns are still easily owned and anyone with a little knowledge can maufacture their own highly dangerous ammunition for it (explosive shells, solid slug etc). If we are going to have a ban, ban them all or not.

Probably better to use lead buckshot. 0 (9 to the ounce), 00 (8 to the ounce) or 000 (6 to the ounce) work nicely. 00 is probably the best compromise at roughly 3.5Gm per pellet.
