how can i get my dad fishing again?

Me and my dad used to fish all the time. Whether it be brid pier or the ponds. Now it seems that hes gone off it but not lost the interest.

Ive offered to pay his licence and bait and ticket but no is always the answer.

I think that he thinks that hes passed a skill down and that is that if you know what i mean.

Can we help this man?

Id love to fish with my dad again!

1. If he and your mother are still together, get her to tell him he absolutely, positively, under no circumstances will be allowed to fish.

2. Tell him exactly how much it would mean to you if the pair of you could fish together again.

#2 would be more likely to get me going if I had stopped for some reason but that's me. Some men would respond better to #1.

If all else fails, see if he will discuss with you why he doesn't go any more.

Monkeyboy, how old is Dad? Maybe he finds it a bit of an effort now?

Have things changed much since you last went together? Have the venues deteriorated, certainly sea fishing has got to be almost a waste of time in some areas.

Maybe you could introduce him gently to a commercial fishery, I know that many "old boys" love them, plenty of fish and usually good access and facilities...can be very important!

Keep trying mate, once you get him "hooked" again he won't want to stop!!

My brother and I bought my Dad a boat! It got him out fishing again! When he died we sold the boat for what it had cost us but blow me if we didn't have to pay death duty on it because it was his!! But it was worth every penny. He was 67 when we bought it and he used it up until two weeks before he died at 74. Lovely boat but so expensive to maintain. All timber clinker built, beaut!

  • 2 weeks later...

Take him out for for a pint one lunchtime and on the way go via your local venue.

When you get there pull a coolbox out of your motor with a few tinnies (yours will have to be a soft drink!!!!)and a couple of chairs.

Sit by the lake/river/pond etc sipping your drinks.

Hopefully he will so remember why he used to fish. santa
