Its that time of the year when you pack away the carp gear and trade it for the deadbait tackle, looking forward to those frost covered mornings in search of the freshwater shark!, Ive already had a couple of sessions on my local pit with no success, infact in the summer i was having 5-6 jacks per session and now i struggle for any runs at all!

Has anyone else got out for the pike yet? if so whats working best on your venue at the moment? and any stories about massive pike?

Went on Sunday with a bunch of lads from the Hull & District AA. Three pike caught in total; I only had one bite which I missed. Need a cold snap to clear the water a bit then they should be easier to catch (hopefully).

Been fishing with spinners and soft plastics over the last week or so on short sessions, had a couple of jacks and perch, a follow from a decent double figure but nothing substantial yet. will be out this weekend to try again.

Been out a few times but no good round my way (Avon), need much colder weather to concentrate the baitfish in certain areas and livebaits as well.

I think the plan this season for me is to really concentrate on good local rivers I can get to regularly and not to waste time travelling to unknown spots on patchy information. Local river has done 20 plus fish in the last couple of years so it has potential.
