returning fish from a great height i.e. pier

when ever i throw the smaller fish back on the pier they always appear to float on the surface and get taken by the gulls so i went on another forum and found a very good solution that i didnt even think about.

anyway i thought i'd share it with you because maybe like me, you dont like killing fish for no reason.

so if you catch a fish you want to release you:

place the grip wire from your lead weight carefully behind one of the gills and then you can lower the fish slowly into the water.

i will be using this method when i next go so hopefully it works, dont see why it wouldnt

always look on the bright side of life

Best way i have found is to drop them from the tail so they go in head first.

I'v thought about getting a drop net for this reason.

Cheers

SandTiger:

Rather then using the grip method why not just lower them down in a drop net?

maybe because i dont have one. i may buy one as i will need to land the big fish im gonna catch. hopefully
