  1. Hi all, I've had my yearly season start annual leave cancelled due to work commitments in Scotland & was wondering if anyone had any advice on fishing around the Falkirk area, I'll be based in Polmont & on Google-maps I can see that 'Polmont Burn' & 'Westquarter Burn' split between the motel I'll be staying in & The Avon is close by too, are these worth a dangle? Also if anyone can tell me any local rules or bylaws that would also be a great heIlp, most of what I can find online is based on Salmon & Trout angling. Thanks
  2. Hi all, First off let me apologise for the newbie or long gone inactive member topic asking for advice, I know when I was an active member I often thought it was a bit of a cheek people coming in, asking for help never to be seen or heard of again. After a few years of not a lot of fishing happening in my life due to moving to the city I can't get enough of it again & this weekend a chance long weekend has come up with a couple of days free for fishing. So to the point, I've been teaching a friend over the last few weeks to fish & she'd picked it up really well & will be fishing with me this weekend, I'm after somewhere to fish local that has a variety of fish for the wagler and / or quiver tip rods, I can see locally from maps that there are a lot of streams and ponds in Cherrington and also a few miles north but I'm not having much luck finding out any information and most importantly fishing rights, I leave tomorrow morning If anybody has help or advice it would be very much appreciated & I promise to start using the forum more frequently
  3. I hunt using Air rifle or shotgun, anything that can be used after it has been shot gets used either by myself or my reptiles. I started to get into clay pigeon shooting but since the cart price rise it's getting hard to justify rounding off 100 carts if less than an hour.
  4. I only fish lures for pike and start 1st of october to the 16th of March.
  5. I'm with Newt, I have camo that I use for shooting but it is so comfortable that my camo stuff is now part of my fishing attire and sometimes just dossing about indoors, it's also nice and light so you can wear the trousers instead of shorts and not get sun burn. The other advanted is that any dirt you get on it just blends in and is easy to clean.
  6. I think this is them Clicky One Thing that would put me off is if any reflection shines off them and at £2.50 a pop the price does to.
  7. Central heating, Car and Holiday! Some people don't know their born
  8. Thanks for your help but I think I'll give you mates gear a miss, the cheapest reel alone is the same sort of price as all the kit listed above and the cheapest rod 3x that, it's a bit out of my beginners price range.
  9. Hi all, I've decided that this year I would like to have a bash at fly fishing as it's the only type of fishing I've not done before and aim for mullet as they are getting to easy with bait I was going to buy a fladen/vantage or Shakespeare starter set but I'm dubious about the quality or if it will hold up to the mullet and after having a look around I thought I would spend a little bit extra and get some half decent gear. What I am hoping is that if I put my shopping list up here from tackle bargains some gentlemen will go through and correct my newbie mistakes. Rod: Airflo Middle Tip - 3pc - 9ft 6" 7/8 rod Reel: Airflo CST46 Balance Rod and reel deal: £95 for both. Line: Airflo Polyfuse XT Bass / Pike Cold Saltwater size wf 8f? Leader: Fulling Mill Knotless Tapered Fluorocarbon Leader 5lb? What do you use as hooklength? Something like double strength, amnesia or normal mono. Is there anything rod wise I will need apart from flies? Thanks in advance Dan
  10. 6500 C3Ct Elite wanted, Will pay around £45, Email my forum name @hotmail.com Thanks Dan
  11. Theres me thinking not long not untill I can spin for gars, better get tieing my secret mullet lures
  12. --> QUOTE(Norm B @ Dec 24 2006, 05:48 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> does Southend really need another tackleshop? Judging by the way the "one in the middle of town" is being run by the new owner I don't think it will be open much longer, Over the last month I have been in a few times for lead clips and been told they will have some in a few days. They do have 30 pots of lazy lug in the fridge and some crap chinese air rifles under the counter to componsate though I only go in there because it's handy in town and the old boy in there is alright. I think i'l stick to jettys from now on.
  13. I'm glad that there is goin to be more fishing on telly but I would hardly call 4 episodes a series, hopefully enough people will watch it to kick the bbc into making more programs Now where's that gift horse gone, its time to check his teeth
  14. Nice catch, I bet the heart was going some Don't you like camo?
  15. Nice response UKFT It's the people who moan about fireworks that are half the problem, they moaned about fireworks that were so cheap that anyone could afford them so the little packets of 10 bangers or 10 rockets were banned so now you have to buy the big loud ones, I was more than happy to spend £20 on a few rockets and bangers that lasted an hour but now i have to buy the great big fireworks that shake your house and set off car alarms to get my yearly fix.
  16. Well it's a good job you can't have intercourse with them, otherwise they would be known as Moth-er, actually forget that, it's a bit rude and crude and it would bring a barrage of light on or off jokes
  17. If anyone can remember back a couple of years the storm pike imitation lures! They had a bright red tail with bright red eyes that was made of a piece of red rubber that went through the lures head, Then last year they changed the design to a browny cream tail and wobbly stick on eyes, well I don't like them as much as the older version and I want some for this season. Does anybody know of anywhere that still has these in stock or is anybody ripping off this old copy? If you could let me know if you see any about it would be much appreciated.
  18. I can't give any advice as I’ve not fished for perch with lures or spinners for long and am no way near as experienced as those who have replied above but I had a month or so where a stretch of canal was driving me crazy (and the Mrs because I was sneaking off at all hours). So will give my findings in case they can help in any way. (Or maybe it’s me that needs the help). On the stretch I was fishing I found that the best results were with small black spinners (about the size of a flattened penny) with yellow spots in the mepps comet style with the treble removed and replaced with a size 8 raptors. If I was fishing with the flow of water then a slow retrieve was better and if I was fishing against the flow then a fast retrieve worked better. If fishing with a worm then fishing with the flow a fast retrieve was better but against the flow it was better to fish sink and draw letting the spinner lay on the bottom for a couple of seconds. I found the fish nearly always took the spinner/worm as I bounced the spinner back up from the bottom. It's probably the opposite as to what other people have found as I’m normally backwards and it may not work for you, it could of just been the water I was fishing but I can't wait for the pike season to open so I can try it out on a few of my normal lure chucking waters.
  19. I like to think that I get paid to go fishing, it makes it that much sweeter Ajay does your wife work for the nhs? I used to do shift work for them, 7 on 7 off but still worked out to 84 hours per week and I only earned part time 14 days holiday
  20. It just goes to show you never know whats down there! Things are changing, The amount of wrass iv heard caught from this area shows things are changing. I'm waiting for the first seal to get washed up with a piece missing
  21. I'm glad I'm not the only nutter that talk's to his dog in "their" language It's amazing how a certain sound can be more effective than a verbal command. Dose anybody else play-fight with their dog? By play-fight i mean like puppys do, bite each others ear's, have pushing competitions, tug of war holding the toy in your own teeth etc. A funny thing my dog dose is when he's naughty you can tell him to "go in the corner" and actually tell him what corner to go to, ie: behind his chair, under the table etc and he does it. You can also tell him to go get something and although he don't actually "fetch" it, he will go and inspect it, silly things like remote control, trainer or cup but he gets so excited when he goes over to the item he lose's his focus and runs around like a loony, although he will fetch his water dish when it's empty and now he just smacks you round the head with it when it needs filling You can also tell him to go the other way when he's chasing his tail. He sounds clever but he's one of the stupidest dogs I'v ever known Can't believe I'v rambled so much, Proud dad syndrome
