Weyhey!! Thanks Steven.UK but I fear you may be too late?! Having used Firefox for a toatl of four days I am finding myself using IE as I keep getting message telling me so and so does not exist?! Including A/net?1 Yet I load IE and get in right away!! I will persevere a bit longer, but I fear tyhe writing is on the wall as far as I am concerned.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

Firefox for me every time, it blows IE out of the water! IE does not render html and css scripts properly for starters :(

No annoying pop up adverts (not adware but legit popups from websites).

Tab browsing

Much quicker to load a webpage although Firefox is slower to begin with when first started up.

I'm sure i have more reasons but those will do to start with.

I have not experienced any running bugs with spell bound.

Its just installing it can be a bit hit and miss, it doesn't screw things up when it doesn't install right. It can take a few attempts to get it to install all 3 xpi files.

works on 1.0 and 1.0.1

melpen I asked a guru about the SMP/hyperthreading issue. I'm posting his response.

If you want to really dive into this, post in the IE section of the www.windowsbbs.com forum and Joe Hobart (this is his) can give you more detail and maybe if you continue to see the huge performance differences and do want to speed up IE, give you some specific how-to advice.

Joe can speak English - but since he was answering my question, he didn't bother.

i dont think IE is SMP compatable

Horse manure, and i can prove it.

Here is a snapshot of IE under the debugger. There are 11 threads in this process. The way 'SMP' works is on thread granularity under WindowsNT OSes. At any given time, one thread is running on each processor, ex: 4 procs, 4 threads, 1 proc, 1 thread.

Thread #0 is the message pump, and primary rendering thread. #1 is an RPC worker thread, #2 is an ole worker thread, #3 is an Async Wininet/Winsock network communications thread. #4 uh.. #5 uh... #6 RPC worker thread, #7 uh... #8 mshtml rendering engine thread #9 doing something #10 mshtml rendering thread.

So, other than my symbols being hosed due to receint security updates, we can see that on a 4 proc machine, IE could be doing the following tasks all at the same time:

1) Handling inbound messages (WM_PAINTS, WM_MOUSEMOVEs etc)

2) Sucking data off the internet via a TCPIP socket

3) rendering

4) handling ole or rpc callbacks for plugins

Many thanks newt,

Have dumped IE.

Am now using firefox, with no probs, no freezing, pages are loading correctly.

Have not had time too delve into whether firefox is capable of SMP
