Hi Colin

 

Smoothwall runs on a dedicated PC. It is linux based, but it simply provides firewall facilities, and various other bits and pieces. It is not a "working" pc in any other respect.

 

If you have a spare PC (anything pentium will do, it does not need to be high spec) stick 2 network cards in it and install smoothwall - which really is very very easy and you will have a very secure network.

 

However if you have a router/firewall you will already have a similar level of security.

 

Once you have it installed you can run any PC using any operating system in conjunction with it.
