I built one many years ago out of an old fridge. It was for cold smoking though. It actually worked very well.

 

I was given a Bradley smoke generator a few months ago...it didn't work from new so my mate was sent a replacement and told to keep the broken one....He gave it to me, I stripped it and re-attached a loose wire and it worked perfectly. I've just acquired an old fridge from another friend and am in the process of "tuning" it....An industrial water pipe with wheel valve to adjust the flow was received with thanks by another friend for the chimney and we're nearly there. Total cost so far is a couple of pints!

Sounds good worms! Mine will be a hot smoker for doing brisket/pulled pork/pastrami etc. Got the the stand welded up today so making good progress, should hopefully have it done early next week ready to get some food on the go

Got a bit more done today, should hopefully finish up tomorrow when I finish work. Or at the very least get the last bits cut and tig weld it tomorrow night. All things being well there should be a chicken in there smoking by saturday lunchtime

Happy BBQing, got the weather for it today, our place stinks of BBQs stoking already, people hooting na hollering already, sunshine does strange thing to people, LoL

Finally finished it today, secured myself a supply of oak logs, roll on Saturday!

Already got 5kg of sawdust, the logs are to burn alongaide the coal

It's working a treat, managing to keep the cooking chamber steady at around 100 degrees and the soaked oak logs are smoking nicely! Pork has been on since about half 8 and the chicken an hour or so. Will post the results later!
