Crazy Clock ..

Odd one this ..

When I fire up my PC the onboard clock shows the correct time/date.

However, as soon as I connect to the internet it changes to 6.30 am 7th Feb 2036 !!!

I have reset the time/date numerous times, and even used Microsofts time down loader to correct it .. but the problem still persists. It always reverts to the time/date above.:angry:

Really annoying this, because I used various sites on the next that have time certificates on them, and they will no load because my PC clock has gone GaGa !! :o:o

Anyone any ideas ?

i suspect your motherboard battery could be failing ,and their cheap enough to replace if its not (but 1 less thing to look for) ,inside your case on the motherboard is a battery ,shiny as big as a two pence ,note its number (usually but not always a cr2032) buy another ,switch OFF PC at mains but DONT unplug it,with one hand on unpainted metal frame of PC (to earth you) slide out old battery (noting which way up it is) slide in new one ,turn on pc ,hopefully that will cure it ,the bios settings will be ok if you put it in within a minute or so,

for £3 (tops) you have illiminated a potential cause of a forgetfull clock ,if it still happens then its a new battery anyway to stop it happening in the future .

if it doesent cure it your one step up in finding the cause

6.30 am 7th Feb 2036 UCT / GMT is a very interesting time & date. It is the largest date that our PCs can store unless some major operating system changes are made (or unless PCs are changed which is much more likely). 6:31 am 7th Feb 2036 will cause errors because the number as the PC sees it is too large and will overflow the space set aside for date & time.

Try the below if you are using 2000/XP/2003. Otherwise you will need to get some sort of 3rd party utility to do the same job.

If you try this and things still aren't working, post back. It could still be a battery issue as chesters1 suggested and given the age of your PC, the battery could use changing if your PC makes it easy. Even if the battery is bad or going bad, this should still work since it's only function is to maintain settings while your PC is powered off.

Click on start, on run, key in CMD and click OK.

From the cmd prompt, you need to force your PC to look for an internet time server and synch with it. There are a number of them in the UK. So key in (and this has to be exact) the following.

net time /setsntp:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

(where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of a time server near you)

and then press the Enter key.

Example (and you might want to copy/paste it):

net time /setsntp:194.35.252.7

Key in exit to close the cmd window and the job is done.

Good ones to use if you live in the UK - and best to pick the closest to where you live:
