I did, a few weeks ago, with a view to buying one - rod, blank or handled part-built - without success...

I have no favorite rod or pin but i use what i need .

For small carp [ 10 kilo ] bream and tench i use a 12 ft rod for 4-6 lbs lines and use then most of the time a young 2040 pin .

For bigger fish or water with snags i use a 12 ft rod but then for 8-12 lbs lines and as pin use a okuma

Old review of the Harrison....

'Tis the Gti for me too....wonderful rod. Apparently I got mine built by Harrison's as a favour to my tackle shop. They only sell the blanks now.

As has been pointed out, when bankside vegation is a problem and/or I can't wade then my 12' Technium Avon jobbie does the job.

I'm off in search of a lady or two from the Wharfe tomorrow as it happens.....

I have an Okuma aventa pro which looks great and is nicley balanced with my trusty old Shimano twin power 14ft match rod. They blend togheter niclely due to colours and blank thickness.

My only quibble are the old sliding graphite reel fittings.

I have to use electrical tape to stop them moving as the reel foot is to small.

The other rod I have used is my MAP Parabolix matchtek 13ft waggler rod.

This rod is lighter. slimmer and more responsive.

Trouble is the blank seems to slim.

I prefer this rod with a fixed spool for waggler work.

I use a mix of the wilson Avon/quiver with and without the extension, but mostly use a Drenan tench float rod especialy if I am after the perch.

just one more cast then I'am off home

thanks a lot for the replies everyone.

i spent the afternoon on the bristol avon, with the okuma and my super specialist avon rod, which seemed to perform well enough. what i was amazed by though was the reel, they are absolutely incredible, and i actually enjoyed trotting for the first time, it was liberating too, to carry only one rod, a landing net and pockets full of bits rather than all the crap i normally cart around with me.

so it's a big thumbs up for the aventa (which i got off chris goddard, thanks a lot chris) and the start of a search for a 13foot rod for it, the avon will do me for now so i may hold out till i see a decent normark or similar

I've got a Browning 13' match rod that I use for all of my light float fishing, and it's been fine. It isn't as good an all-rounder as the Daiwa Cavalier I used to have, but it's fine for most things and a lot lighter and stiffer than the Daiwa was.

I find that trotting gives me a bit of lower back ache whatever rod I use. For me it's just a result of standing up for hours at a time. My natural posture when trotting is usually with most of my weight on my upstream leg and a slightly tilted pelvis, which is just asking for trouble.

I have exactly the same trouble too, also when I'm wandering around lure fishing. I bought myself a neoprene lumbar support belt from my local chemist shop....it works wonders and keeps me warm too.

Ive got a 13' Normark Camero that I am thinking of parting with for £40, (Ferret bought my MkI Titan). I will have it with me at the lower Itchen fish in if you want a play with it,

Got to pay for the Titan II somehow.

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.
