My new PB barbel :)

Again well done! A 3lb grayling is quite a fish! Had another barbel last night but none on the float yet but I havnt actually tried since the 16th

Thank's Matt, it was virtually on the same day this time last year when I caught another grayling in the next swim down....wierd in'it !

I was thinking about your post not long back where you accidently cast amongst the barbel and frightend them off. Rather than ledger for them could you not feed them from upstream ? ...and then trott down to them. That way you'd have a good chance of catching a few out of the shoal. Just try to feed as your bringing in your hooked fish, this seems to keep the others pre-occupied and stops them spooking.

They are the same fish I have been catching just from the next swim up using feeder tactics, need to clear a way to get into the river to trot from here hopefully one evening next week

I'd clear your entry spot into the river at least 30 yards upstream, 40 or 50 if possible.

I had a couple of hours on the river today at tea time. The river was very low and the water was running a strange dirty colour. I had a few barbel but I only botherd taking one pic. Being mid river it would have been alkward keep going back to the bank to take a pic.

I used the 14ft acolyte plus today and it performed ok but it's deffo not up to the hype it's been getting on forums etc.

A guy at work has bought the 14' plus version. He's happy with it but first impressions (his not mine) suggest that it might not have much additional grunt over the standard Acolyte. Mind you he hasn't caught anything to really test it yet so time will tell.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

I can't say how much difference there is, if any between the two rods chris as i've only used the plus. I do know that mine was bent to virtual destructiuon yesterday and if the ultra isn't as powerfull it wouldn't have been any use to me, no doubt i'd have caught the fish but it would have been much more drawn out. The rod performed ok but just didn't feel as nice to use as my older drennans, my normarks or hardys rods. I'd say as far as rods go on the shelves in tackle shops today they're one of the better ones, especially if you can get a few notes knocked off. I got mine for 160 so it felt a little better than paying full price.

A cracking Barbel Tigger.

I have been away for a few weeks and it looks like AN members have been busy catching some top quality fish.

Thank's Dales...as you say plenty AN'ers catching some nice fish.

I had several hours out trotting today, although I could see barbel in my swim I couldn't tempt them to take a moving bait. I know I could have caught them if i'd reverted to ledgering but i'd rather go home than ledger just now as it bores me. I did have some chub and dace, this is as big as they got....
