Most passenger ships trading in this area are grossly over loaded, fares are cheap so a policy of packing them on to make it pay is a daily hazard.

A single decker bus went into the Nile a few years back and ninety odd bodies were recovered travelling on a bus designed to hold 58 passengers.

It is very sad but it is a way of life out there and when it goes wrong the results are horrendous.

I lived in Mahdi whilst work in Egypt and the morning trains into Cairo were a sight to see, people sitting on the roof dodging the overhead cables, clinging on the sides with barely a foothold and accidents were a daily occurance.

I fish, I catches a few, I lose a few, BUT I enjoys. Anglers Trust PM

Truly an horrendous tragedy. My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who perished. It seems strange it went down so quickly and with no Mayday call. It rather smells of foul play somewhat.

i was thinking that! but didnt want to jump the gun!

packed full of muslims, maybe a few 100 westerners!

seems strange the skipper didnt get a call out! thought it was just a matter of whacking a button

and a mayday would go out???

hi,jack???

seems in the parimeters of the tally boys thinking! (SOFT TARGET)

SA being an american foot hold in the middle east/ EGP being the one of the most liberal arab countrys?

that has been hit a few times before!

who knows?

maybe a take over! and opening the doors?

it wouldnt be too hard! somthing that a 5 man team of pali teenagers with death on ther mind

and AK47,s could do easily, without blinking!

Apparently it was an old Ro-Ro ferry and we all know what happens to them when a big sea smashs the doors open and water floods in over the car deck.

Rather surprising that given the scale of the tragedy that it was'nt lead item on the six oclock news and no I don't buy into any crackpot conspiracy/get the westerner theories
