Check out your local colleges, they'll be a lot cheaper, took mine at Havant College, it was around the £50 mark. That included the 1 day course and licence exam.

Tried to search around for a weekday/cheaper course, but decided to bite the bullet in the end.

And keep practising, because if you don't use the phonetic alphabet frequently (and us amateurs have little reason to) it can get a bit rusty. Many years ago I had an engine failure out at sea and had to call the Coastie for help. I was in a bit of a dither as it was a scary moment, and the mind blanked. They asked me to spell the name of my boat (then "Athabasca") and could I remember the words? I felt such a plonker. I now keep in practice by reciting number plates as I see them when driving about, so I don't think I'd have such an embarassing moment like that again.

Or rename your boat "KILO"
