i cant get the macro working on my digital camera, well i mean it works but its crap it all comes out prety blured, i managed to get it working properly once on some writing but it wasnt nearly as detailed as the above pictures, does the camera need to be on a tripod or somthing stable so theres no movement ?

I used a reversed 50mm lens that cost me 2 quid off a boot sale with a reversing ring on my Canon G6 for macro stuff http://alnath.fotopic.net/p26219638.html

It gives quite high magnification, this is some sugar http://alnath.fotopic.net/p19781865.html

Brilliant! I didn't know you could do that, the sugar shot is amazing.

G'day mate, it would be a good idea to get a tripod. I don't have one.....but I will be checking them out on my next trip to town. My camera has optical image stabiliser, and I have to take maybe up to 10 pix to get the one I want.

yeah i think i will be investing in one, perhaps the bank stick adapters ive heard about instead of luging a tripod when i go fishing

I've just bought a Gardner ball and socket head (Gold Label do one too) that screws into a bankstick. With my Canon S2 , that also has image stabilisation, I'm looking forward to using it.

However, I gather from friends that images can still be a bit shaky on a camera without image stabilisation unless at a relatively high shutter speed.

I'd add that there's not as much weight saving as I thought compared with a tripod as the latter weights about the same as my bankstick! However the bankstick has the advantage that it can be stuck in the ground - my tripod has blown over in windy weather.

I'm also going to try it on a small fishing tripod (from Leeda), that again will stick in the ground and be very stable.
