Snakes?

I saw one yesterday at Bury Hill.

It appeared in the margin and swam to the other side.

Three geese gave chase but they turned around when they managed to get close enough to see what it was!!!

I couldn't make out which snake it was but I imagine that it would be a grass snake. From a distance you could clearly see is little black nose poking up out of the lake and its body doing the classic snake wiggle!!

Has anyone else seen much snake activity on the waterside?

None yet this year, but it's quite common round here to see grass snakes behaving as you describe.

Saw a great herd of adders once, basking on sunny rocks by a stream out on the Yorkshire moors.

Fortunately I was hiking and not fishing ;)

Bleeding heart liberal pinko, with bacon on top.

How fast can you hike, when in a hurry? :D

I've sen grass snakes do it plenty of times and haveeven caught them in a landing net before quickly releasing them.

It also happened whist fishing in India and an unidentified snake swam the river before disapearing into the bank about a foot from my feet.

I decided that I would return to that swim after a short break - can't think why.

Funny thing is I saw a snake when I looked over a small low bridge at Waltham Abbey on the river Lea, I was just as shocked as the snake was!

It was a grass snake sunning himself in about six inches of water, must have been a good two foot long, I stared at it for a few minutes then till it took off.

I have seen quite a few snakes in my time all of which I assume have been grass snakes, funnily enough nearly all of them have been in water.....

How was the fishing at Bury Hill?

****ing **** again...

I had a tench rod and a carp rods setup and caught 5 bream!!! Its the 4rth time that has happened to me on the old lake. I talked to a number of other people on the bank some who fish the old lake every weekend, They were all of the opinion that the fishing has been very bad for a few months now. Have the carp all been moved to the new lake???
