Rip off Fisheries!

What a Rip - off!

Took my boy (6) for a couple of hours at Mill Barn just outside Southend on Sea this afternoon, when the owner came around and asked me for £10 for the day ticket I asked, if he did any discount for Juniors or half day tickets, as we were only there for about 2 hours!

The answer pretty much gobsmacked me

"I am giving you a discount, I usually charge £15"

And then showed me some nicely printed up tickets that said "Father and Son, using either 1 or 2 rods - £15"

Anyone know of a suitable place in the Southend area to teach a 6 year old how to fish without needing a second mortgage!

be a good idea to makes a list of venues like this who want to rip people off so others can avoid there fisheries.

if i was teaching my boy then there is no way i would expect to have to pay a ticket for him if we were in the same peg.

anyone got any of of these punches please

I always end up paying for my 9 year old, even if we fish from the same peg, and my 6 year old who fishes for 20 mins then looks at flowers..

A list like that would give Elton mucho trouble so is unlikely to happen!

You'd need to turn it around and make a list of Fisheries that are familly and Junior angler friendly, and let the fact that the bad ones are not on the list speak for itself . . . .

FWIW I feel that an adult/child teaching session, with the child fishing and the adult tutoring and advising should at most cost the same price as a junior day ticket on that water. Just because I handle the rod during the session to demonstrate things shouldn't mean I need two day tickets for one swim.

Once William and I get to the stage where we are actually fishing a rod each, then I'd expect to pay two day tickets, with maybe a little discout if we both fish from the same swim/peg

It's a shame fishery owners don't look to the long term, a six year old boy learning to fish on water 20 mins from home could end up becoming a lifelong customer - if you don't chase him away on his first few sessions!

i now realise i was totally wrong from whats being said here, but i always assumed children under the age of 11 didnt require club, books rod licenses day tickets etc.

Under 12's don't need a rod licence, but as to day tickets and club memberships thats down to the club / owner of the water concerned.
