pickled walnuts

Trust me Newt - I'm the guy who served you shellfish, chilli sauce and beer - the perfect Pre-prandial nibble.

Pickled walnuts accompanying smoked eel are just as good.

 

Based on that recommendation Vagabond, I am now game to try them if I ever run across any.

usually find them in the supermarkets in the run up to christmas when people are buying all sorts of pickles to try and make cold roast turkey taste palatable.

I have to confess I used to pinch my Aunties Pickled Walnuts EVERY Xmas!! But had thought they were pickled in Balsamic Vinegar?? Heinz do them still!!

Vags, where did you get the smoked eel?

my dutch mate bought me some back last week, but I was at the bloody steam fair so he scoffed the lot himself!!!! and he had some of them little brown shrimps in butter as well......

just bought a jar from sainsbury's. not sure if i can eat them though.might make a good carp bait

I'm inspired so I've just bought some from Morereasons too (same ones as in Vagabonds pic above). Will try them tonight!!

I once gave them to a friend as a trophy after he went shooting the day after his vasectomy. It wasa premeditated idea.

 

By the time he had finished the shoot, the recoil was making a synaptic leap from trigger finger to scrotum and he could hardly walk. Whether he was able to eat the walnuts is a subject I never did establish!
