Moral Dilemma

Salar

Recommended Posts

You are innocently fishing for flatties and hook a small bass - say about a pound and a bit. Sadly it has taken the hook well down and is badly injured and can hardly swin, it will undoubtedly die. It is undersized, but large enough to eat. Would you

a) put it back anyway, after all that's the law - and watch it struggle away

B) put it out of its misery and hide the body

c) put it out of its misery and take it home and eat it - but tell nobody.

d) take it home but be quite open about it - its against the rules but it was going to die anyway and it would be a sin to waste it.

Views anybody?

kill it, cut it up and use it as a flapper (hopefully for its big brother) dry the head and adorn your hat with it

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

At 1.5lbs it's likely to be over the MLS.

Let's say it's smaller than that.

If you keep it, you risk a £3,000 fine.

£3,000 could save many lives, educate many children, improve the quality of life for many people.

And you'd risk all of that for one undersized bass!

That's the problem with hypothetical moral dilemmas!

I take it that you fish for sport and food. Eat it and enjoy.

I read some where that eel fishers use some kind of small bar just above the hook to stop eels from swallowing the hook, could this be a way of avoiding the problem? Don't jump down my throat, I am just asking as I have never fished for eels :)

The option surely is (a) because it will NOT be wasted - something, somewhere (perhaps a mature bass) will have it for lunch - after all big predators must eat too!

(B) is not entirely stupid , as sand hoppers will eat the body and in turn provide food for something else.

(d) OK if you can afford £3000 to make a political statement

(Chesters solution) a stroke of genius as it combines a,b and elements of d. :D:D

You leave me out of this!

:D

Vagabond does have a serious point here, though. Get caught with an undersize fish and the authorities wouldn't give a monkey's that it was dead anyway.

I agree Jim, don't forget the Dill and Perno :D

Leave it dead on the beach for the sea gulls or cats and Peta would just love the ammunition :(
