Had the day off yesterday, and decided to spend it down the end of my road at the commercial that I've been neglecting all summer. I was the only angler on the specimen pool all day, and was having fun with small commons and golden orfe of 3-4lb, before something rather bigger latched on to my hair-rigged 14mm halibut pellet - which turned out to be this 22lb mirror, almost exactly doubling my previous best!

I don't really consider myself a carp angler, not being into bivvying or multiple rod set-ups etc, but it was nice to get something this chunky on the bank for once.

Thanks to Diane (the missus) for responding so promptly to my phone call and peddling down on her bike to take the photo (can't complain, even though I hadn't realised that the tail of the fish was being obscured by the landing net). :)

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.

Nice one Davy  , just shows you don't always have to camp out to get a biggy ;)

You'll have to name it now, how about 'Arfur', 'cos in the photo you can only see......arfur fish :)

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Thanks for the kind words, chaps - as one or two have commented, Home Farm is a very attractive-looking fishery, thanks largely to the efforts of the full time manager. You never see any litter there and the fish look well cared for and healthy.

It fishes (and looks) more like an old-fashioned estate lake than a commercial, which means it can be quite "moody" and unpredictable at times. It started life as a fish farm about 20 years ago, so it occasionally throws up some exotics like sterlets.

I'm very lucky to have it 10 minutes walk away - I'll probably be putting in for a season ticket when I'm too gaga for driving.
