TFG Journeyman Heavy Spinning Rod

Has anyone tried the TFG Journeyman Heavy Spinning Rod ?

It's available at what appears to be a very reasonable price with a "free" reel.

Trouble is, I don't want or need a reel and to be honest, this sort of sweetener just makes me nervous about parting with my hard earned.

What I need is a strong reliable travel rod that will do the business, not a piece of cheap crap that sounds like a bargain but which will let me down 8000 miles from home.

It's a bit like a three for two deal at Boots. Nobody wants to buy three bottles of shampoo but the fact that the deal exists means that you know that the store are ripping you off by 50% if you just want a single bottle.

I have the heavier of the two StCroix Tidemaster rods already. Great for general fishing and has been totally reliable (it even survived an encounter with a fan) for the last 5 years.

I would recomend StCroix to anyboby but I need a big gun for lure fishing because although I have a travel uptider, it's just to heavy to use for any period of time.

I saw the two piece version of this rod in Cape Cod last summer. they seem good and are used for fairly heavy surf plugging for stripers there. Might be worth a go, not too expensive either. Might even talk myself into getting one too!

.

Yep, I have used it in both Belize and Brazil. It casts a heavier lure than the Exage 240/270 which I also use. Has landed a fair number of fish, including Trevally and Barracuda in the high doubles.

There was no "rod and reel" offer when I bought it - paid about £50 I think - well satisfied with it.
