That would include Leon and myself. So far I have never seen an anti, and I like dogs. I had one once (a German sheperd bitch) and she always went fishing with me.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Further to my earlier post have found out the name of the new proposed umbrella body:-

http://www.nuba.org.uk/

This to me looks good on paper, but I'd be interested to hear what others thought.

Jim.

Hi Jim

With all the good intendion in the world, which what you are saying, a union for the for the betterment of angling, in particury sea angling will not work.

sea angling is effected by management policy by Brussels and DEFRA and they can not control or manage the fisheries within the European waters, so how can a anglers union effect or influence something that cannot be controled or managed by the people that manage it, small point with a big meaning, sorry

Regards Steve

What are you doing then Henry. Your petition is to drive an unfair wedge between commercial and rsa, one more won't make much differance.

cheers barry

Not at all. The one consistent point in my arguments is that I am petitioning for the good of all.

Out of many things I enjoy in life, those that start with an F tend to feature the most.

Plea to save our fish. Please visit http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Seafishstocks/ and sign it if you agree.

The one on the right is Trubshaw, the one on the left is Teal.

A few apathetic replies in there. I agree that there may be some attention to detail needed with regard to the nuts and bolts of the strategy but don't you think that his big picture is what angling has been crying out for for decades?

Read the last 2 paragraphs here:-

http://www.nuba.org.uk/original.htm

AFAIK NUBA is the work of one man and no doubt the detail will change over time, especially once the ball gets rolling.

Can there be any angler who doesn't envy the RSPB for their organisational strength, unity of members and funding? We surely need an equivalent body and NUBA could turn into something very close if it can muster enough support,

Jim.

There's a good piece in this weeks fishing news on bass and trying to enforce controls on bass anglers.

This bit I thought was brilliant.

I quote

"Let's return to the tags. we believe they are a very good idea but would much prefer to see them attached to the recreational angler rather than the fish .We would advocate the establishment of a Ministry for Angling within DEFRA.

A modest fee of just £12.50 would realise a budget of £5m from bass anglers alone and of course the sky would be the limit if all RSA were hooked into the system.

There would be variations to the licences limiting the number of days they could fish in a month and they would be confined to fishing only certain areas.

Boats and more efficient reels would have power restrictions imposed and it would be necessary for each angler to complete a written declaration on a daily basis which must be submitted to the new ministry with in 48 hours of their arrival home. The penalty for failure to submit would be £5000 for the first offence.

The tags would be fitted with GPS satellite monitoring so that the ministry could plot everyone's position every two hours. The MCA would be on hand to ensure all anglers had the correct safety equipment and to they had taken the mandatory courses in rock climbing and the care of wet sandy feet.

All in all it would be a good start for the new group in achieving parity with its commercial counterpart.

DEFRA would welcome the initiative for variety of positive reasons. It would place severe restrictions on personal freedom and human rights. It would generate a new legislative mountain, swell the ranks of the Civil Service and give a massive boost to the paper industry.

The enforcement division of the new ministry would include uniformed Restaurant Fridge Inspectors (RFIs)

and armed Bag Examiners.

The Royal Marines would be used to back up the new agency instead of the Royal Navy because of the former 's fast boat squadron and ability to cover difficult terrain quickly.

The angling lobby has secured a temporary with our newly promoted minister, who presumably was rendered temporarily dizzy with power-----------"

Another juicy bit,

" If the aforementioned 400,000 each catch just 1.5 Kg of bass they too will have trumped the entire efforts of UK commercial bass fishermen.

Had me splitting my sides too Wurzel

As did the rest of the piece by David Pessel, Chairman of the NFFO's Bass Action Committee.

Hello Leon

You know that "a lot of truth is spoken in jest" or what ever the saying is.

Not in this case though.

Was it in jest?

Seems to me that David is trying to attempt with cheap shots what he is unable to express sensibly as reasoned argument.

As an RSA I much comforted that's the best the chariman of the 'Bass Action Campaign' can manage in an industry paper that is scanned by those that have to take serious decisions following well thought out arguments.

Any idea how the legal challenge is proceeding?

I have no idea, the next time I meet Barrie Deas, I'll give him your regards , and ask him for you.

Which bit did you think was untrue?
