second question is on rod whipping. i can do the basics, and im very happy with this. My problem is how do u stop the build running down the rod? i put some masking tape on but this isnt such a good idea. the build just builds up against it, doesnt seem to taper. i think thats the word im after.

Winter, When you say Build, I take it you mean the high build resin.....the rod has to be kept turning to stop it forming a "lump" I was talking with Jabee about this, you can convert the wee motor you get in BBQ's, the one for the "spit". To buy a proper one can get fairly expensive.....I dont have one at all, and it can be a pain having to turn the rod a quarter turn every few minutes....Re the Pendulum cast, I'm hopeless at it.... :D

i did a few saturdays at the marco factory (olden days factory) and their machines worked at a slight angle ,as the rods slowly turned the varnish on the whippings wanted to naturally run from the thicker end of the slope under the whippings to the thinner the angle countered it and it stayed where it was put ,i think it was some kind of physics stuff, simple but effective

first cast i had the brake full on and did a perfect but short 50 yarder ,2 clicks less and it was birdnest hell  back to trusty fixed spools

Hi Winter,

What part of the cast cast is being a problem....

or is it all of it :D

The most important part of the cast is without doubt your body position, and setting up the cast.

Practice setting up the lead, high above your shoulder, from the pendulem, and then drop it to the ground, repeat, untill you are happy with it.

When sending the lead away, dont try to send it too far, increase your distance gradualy.

put some engine oil in the bearings of the reel at first, this will help you to slow it. when the lead starts going away without blowing the reel up ,you will get more confident with the setting up of the cast.

When I first hit 150 yds, I was delighted.

It can become habit forming.

Have fun , and good luck.

Yakity. :)

Congrats, thats a good cast.

If your hitting that distance now, you are not doing much wrong. your technique and confidence will improve with every session.

Have you got a level wind on the reel??

If you have, take it out,.....thats if your serious about the whole thing.

Have you got the reel in the up or down position?

YY :)
