Terrible news. For those that have been following Andrew Mcauley's trip from Oz to NZ there is bad news.

I pray he is found alive and well.

1 on the lure is worth 2 from the bait.

Likewise Gareth - I know the designer of the kayak, Rob Feloy who also designed the Inuk kayaks. McAuley was well prepared as he has done other, similar, long trips and so there is a good chance that he will be picked up - collective thought can work, so lets all hope things go well, the weather stays suitable for S&R and that Andrew McAuley has some high energy ration in his survival suit.

Have I misread ??

I thought the report said he DID'NT have a survival suit with him ?

That would be crazy though - surely.

Hope he survives

Hmm, just read a bit more about this guy - quite an amazing C.V.

He prolly got fed up of paddling and decided to swim the last bit !

As always with anyone in trouble on the sea.....wish them luck and safe return.

Bill.

thought there would have been some mention on other websites and his official website the he is missing. The latest aussie site does mention he was not wearing his survival suit ... :(

Lets all hope he is ok and is found soon ..!

tis not looking good at all ..... hes been in over 48 hours which is the max he could realistically survive.

I wonder how the poor fella actually slept .. ? i would hate to have to fall asleep in any kayak. Cant imagine how he could sleep in one.

God bless the guy and his poor wife ...

The family of missing trans-Tasman kayaker Andrew McAuley are beginning to give up hope of seeing him alive.

Family spokeswoman Jen Peedom, who is with McAuley's wife Vicki near Milford Sound, said hopes he was still alive were fading.

"Everyone is holding up well. We had a rough night, with Vicki and the family really starting to fear the worst," Ms Peedom said.

very sad

I must go down to the sea again

To the lonely sea and sky

I left my shoes and socks there

I wonder if they're dry?
