Wow, for a moment or two I thought that I was looking at a picture from Wotton Lakes - that took me back a few years for a little while! Do any of you guys fish there? It is famed for its tench fishing and it also holds some very big pike. Indeed, I caught two well over 20lbs there myself. A lovely water to fish and one that was fished extensively by the Taylor Brothers and Walker in the '50s and '60s.

Can`t say I have heard of it, but then again the 50`s-60`s was well before my time

Plenty about Wotton Lakes or Wotton Underwood in books that still exist today!

Not Wotton Chev, it's Chilham Castle. One of the very first castles built by the Normans, the ruin is still there and there is a Queen Anne house (very big) built alongside. Superb views across to the Downs(North).

Lake is a classic Estate lake, dammed brook, mainly shallow and lovely old silty bottom (not the black stuff)

Fair number of large carp which feed undisturbed..........................................

There are several old fishing stages slowly rotting away, the lake is no longer fished, but the new owner of the estate is restoring all the gardens and terraces, must be costing a fortune.

Public is allowed on one or two days a year, which is how I got to see it :)

Like you Chev, I used to seek out and fish these old estate lakes back in the 50's, usually during the close season. Following a little blue line on the map until it emerged into a lake and then headed for the shallow end to look for those big blue shapes :)

Got thrown off many of them :) :)
