There are a lot of freshwater fish out there that are far more consistent fighters than a Carp, Barbel, Tench, Eels to name but three. However, hit a long lean Common or Ghostie round the 12-15lb mark that doesn't live in a muddy pool, & doesn't survive on boilies & you have the hardest pound for pound fighter in our waters. Must mention the Catfish as well, the first run is nothing short of terrifying, but I don't think he has the brains or stamina of a real Carp.

Peter.

The loose lines gone..STRIKE.

As others have commented, this subject tends to crop up but heres my top 5:

1, Eel

2, river pike

3 barbel

4, grayling

5, catfish

ive never had a carp that could touch any of these fish lb for lb.

Definately second the Eel and river pike....those two really put up a fight.

Eels can also swim backwards and can wedge themselves in holes so can be tricky customers!
