The first sound I heard when I woke up on Sunday morning (the 15th) at Wingham was a Cuckoo. This was at 5am so well before sunrise. The cuckoo was followed by a tawny owl then a cockeral. Saw the first swallows of the year later that day as well.

It's surprising that despite the NE winds we've had that the cuckoo and swallows arrived at pretty much the same time as last year.

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.

Do they visit the UK?

Very rarely, usually juveniles in late summer, I saw a couple last time I was over in Andalucia.

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))
