Deet works well but is potentially toxic, Citronella is safe, smells nice, and isn't so effective! I prefer to cover up as much skin as possible and put up with being hot, personally.

I react really badly to insect bites so here is a list that do work

Avon skin so soft - it is the oil spay you want NOT the bubble bath

Jungle forumla

Boots own brand is good as well

Avon is by far the cheapest and anyone with horses, the boys late Grandma used to spray it on her shetland ponies to help keep the flies off them in the summer!

Neem is the best thing you can possibly buy. It was developed in Scotland and we know a thing or 2 about killer midges.

I've tried Avon SSS (pretty good stuff but you have to re-apply it often) and all the other ones that folk suggest but the Neem spray wins hands down. It's very clean on the skin and it even smells fresh. It might seem a bit pricey but I can assure you, it really does work and it goes a long way. I might add, it's very good for cleaning cuts and grazes etc.
